Veneers are typically made from either porcelain or composite materials. With proper care, porcelain veneers can last 10-15 years, while composite veneers will need to be replaced sooner, as they typically last 5-7 years.

Porcelain veneers are stain-resistant, while composite veneers can stain over time, similar to natural teeth. So, though they may be slightly more expensive, porcelain veneers are the obvious choice if you enjoy staining foods and drinks (such as tea, coffee and red wine) or are a smoker, as the material will not become dull and discoloured in just a few months or years.

It may take you a few days to get used to the new shape of your teeth, but you should find that your speech returns to normal within 1-2 weeks. Overly long dental veneers can have a more significant effect on oral function, so our cosmetic dentists will always make sure your veneers are appropriately sized.

Both are excellent options for treating imperfections in the teeth – but veneers serve a slightly different purpose. Dental crowns cover the entire tooth, so are best in cases where more of the surface area needs to be addressed (for example, after decay, or excessive cracking and fracturing). They are also a little thicker and longer lasting. Dental veneers are fitted to your teeth in a different way; they are bonded to the front, but to secure them in place, your dentist won’t need to remove as much of the enamel, keeping your teeth intact.
